2018 marked the year when China’s market for retrofitting elevators in existing buildings experienced explosive growth. A conservative estimate puts the demand for elevator retrofits in China’s existing buildings at around 3.5 million units. Unlike the traditional elevator market, the retrofitting market for existing buildings is an emerging one, with even more stringent requirements for elevator manufacturing technology. Issues such as the temperature of the elevator machine room, cooling challenges within steel-structure shafts, and elevator noise levels all demand higher standards. This new market presents fresh opportunities, and the rapid expansion of the retrofitting market for existing buildings has created new chances for elevator manufacturers to leapfrog their competitors.
